What we do

Base preparation, turf supply, install, aftercare.

Lawn installation begins with the subgrade. We strip the existing surface (turf, soil, or hardstand), level the subgrade, lay 75 to 100mm of screened sandy loam turf underlay, level a second time, and roll. The underlay creates a drained, even bed for the new turf to root into. This step is not optional. Skipping it is the most common cause of lawn failure inside the first summer.

Turf variety is selected to the site. Soft-leaf buffalo (Sir Walter, Palmetto) handles partial shade, low to moderate foot traffic, and standard residential watering. Kikuyu (Eureka, Empire) suits full-sun blocks with high foot traffic from children or pets, but requires more frequent mowing. Couch (Wintergreen) produces a formal manicured finish in full sun. Tall fescue stays green year-round in cool aspects but requires more water through the Melbourne summer.

Post-installation, we provide a printed six-week watering schedule covering the establishment period, a written maintenance guide for ongoing care, and one site visit at the four-week mark to confirm the lawn has knitted and is ready for normal use.

Variety guide

Sir Walter buffalo

Shade tolerant, family-friendly, low maintenance. The default Melbourne residential lawn.

Kikuyu

Full sun, fast growth, recovers from heavy traffic. Best for kids and pets, needs more mowing.

Couch

Manicured look, full sun, lower water use. Best for formal gardens, needs more maintenance than buffalo.

Tall fescue

Cool-tolerant, year-round green, handles partial shade. Best for cooler aspects or design preference.

How we work

The standard process.

Step 01

Send a photo + measurements

Rough size in m² and a photo of the area is enough to start. We'll come back same-day with a quote range.

Step 02

Site visit + variety pick

We walk the site, check the aspect and the soil, and recommend the right grass for your block.

Step 03

Base prep + lay

Strip, level, underlay, level, lay, roll. Most residential jobs are 1 to 2 days on site.

Step 04

4-week check-in

We come back at week 4 to see how the lawn's settling. Adjust the watering plan if needed.

FAQs

The questions we get most.

Roughly $35 to $45 per m² installed for standard turf with base prep. Premium varieties or irrigation tie-in: $45 to $60 per m². Smaller jobs (under 50m²) carry a $1,200 minimum charge. Removal of existing lawn is $8 to $15 per m² extra.

Light foot traffic at 2 weeks, normal use at 4 weeks, first mow at 3 weeks. We give you a printed schedule on lay day with watering, walking, and mowing milestones.

Yes, with the correct variety for the aspect and adherence to the establishment watering schedule. The six-week schedule is the critical period. After establishment, soft-leaf buffalo varieties typically require two deep waterings per week through summer; kikuyu and couch require three. We confirm the lawn has knitted at the four-week site visit.

Depends on your aspect and use. Sir Walter buffalo is the default for most Melbourne residential lawns (shade tolerant, family wear). Kikuyu wins on full sun with kids and pets. Couch for the formal look. Tall fescue if you want year-round green and don't mind more water.

Yes. Top-dressing, over-seeding, patch repairs, dethatching, and annual renovations are all part of our garden maintenance service. Lawn renovation runs $8 to $15 per m². Cheaper than re-laying if the underlying lawn is salvageable.
