What we do

Pruning for clearance, tree structure and garden use

Pruning can address branches affecting access or buildings, deadwood, canopy spread and the development of young trees. We assess the individual tree and agree the objective before choosing the pruning method.

The proposed pruning is informed by AS 4373 and the condition of the tree. The extent of live growth to remove needs to suit the tree and purpose of the work. We do not top or lion-tail trees.

Timing depends on the species, tree condition, flowering or fruiting cycle and weather. Tell us whether the work needs to fit around property use, other garden work or a commercial site schedule.

Reduction pruning that brings a leaning crown back over the trunk. Formative work on young trees so they grow into the right shape.

Selective thinning to let light and airflow through. Removing crossing or rubbing branches. Watering and mulching follow-up advice on the day.

Show the whole tree and the branches or areas causing concern. Include the property address.

Step 02

Agree the objective

We assess what the tree needs and discuss the clearance, canopy or other work being proposed.

Step 03

Confirm the quote

Pruning, access, permissions where needed and material handling are set out before work is booked.

Step 04

Prune and clean up

The agreed pruning and clean-up are carried out with the site conditions and retained tree in mind.

The interval depends on the species, condition, previous pruning and the reason for the work. We assess the tree before recommending pruning or a review interval.

No. Topping cuts branches back to stubs and can lead to weak regrowth and decay. Pruning is planned around a defined objective, with cuts suited to the tree and branch structure. We do not top trees.

It depends on the species, condition and objective. Flowering and fruiting cycles, active growth, disease risk and weather can all affect timing. We recommend a window after identifying the tree and agreeing on the pruning objective.

Every cut is a wound, so the objective is to remove only what is justified and place cuts correctly. Excessive foliage removal, topping and poor cuts can create decay or weak regrowth. The proposed pruning type and approximate extent should be agreed before work starts.
